Trailshadow will be running it's signature challenging Open Expedition programmes during the 2019-20 season. Silver and Gold expeditions will be offered in both intensive and standard formats. Candidates from any DofE Licensed Organisation are entitled to opt to complete their expedition with TrailShadow. Standard format programmes spread the training programme over the the 9 months from October to June, the Intensive format programme compresses the training into around 4 months (march to June). Both formats involve the same amount of training i.e. 10--12 for Silver, 14-15 for Gold (these totals include all training plus the official practice and qualifying expeditions).
Training takes place at locations around the north of Ireland and Teams are expected to devise and plan their own expedition routes. Exact dates for training and expeditions will avoid exam dates and be agreed with the candidates as part of the Induction evening, but indicative dates are set out below:

COST: £220 per candidate.
Payment is due on or before the initial February training session and will be non-refundable. Costs cover training, insurance, hire of tentage and stoves, safety satellite tracking system, provision of an expedition assessor and campsite charges where required. Participants will need to supply their own boots, rain gear, rucksack, and sleeping bag. Groups will be supervised by a qualified Mountain Leader and mountain first-aider.

DofE requires that expedition teams consist of no more than 7 candidates, and no fewer than 4. Candidates occasionally drop out of the programme and where a dropout compromises the viability of a team TrailShadow reserve the right to merge and amend the make-up of teams.
